This is sort of like my earlier post about influential bullet journal bloggers (Go check it out: Bullet Journal Bloggers: Effective Bloggers who Inspire) but with Pinterest. I happen to know a whole lot of bullet journal bloggers (Including a good friend of mine) who have stellar bullet journal boards with lots of great ideas. At the end of the post I will put links to the blogs or pinterest boards of all these great journalers.

Starting off: Allie LaFeber. She is a great friend of mine and a great bullet journaler and blogger too. She focuses a lot on organization with bullet journaling, and tons of new ideas. Allie puts out a lot of doodles and great techniques for lettering and headings in your bullet journal, which are great to go and check out.

My next person is The Petite Planner. In addition to her amazing blog, she collects a ton of new ideas about bullet journaling on her boards. They are all about bullet journaling and organization, so if you are a organization geek that is the place for you. She even includes some posts from her blog as well so if you wanted a peek at that she puts some on there.

The last one is a woman called Hello Helpful. Her whole entire Pinterest account is devoted toward bullet journaling. She really likes weekly layouts and charts and trackers, so if thats for you, check it out.

So I've found a lot of posts online about "Crazy Bullet Journal messups" or "Bullet Journal Mistakes to Avoid" and I thought that I would help y'all along to try to help you skate around those things.

Starting right off: I wanted to take a minute to thank another blogger and journaler like myself: The Petite Planner. I get so many of my ideas from her and she is such a great person. She gave me ideas for this blog post and I want to give her credit.

Okay, now that my little spiel is over, I want to explain why I say newbies. Newbies is the word I used because it appeals to people who might need help with their bullet journaling. Not just newbies mess up, though. Everyone does. Even those pro bullet journalers who we all look up to.

So don't feel insulted if I say newbies. This is for everyone's reference, not just those who are new to bullet journaling.

So lets get started!

1. Doing too much
When you look at Instagram, Snapchat or Pinterest, it is easy to get caught up with all those amazing ideas out there waiting for you.

You just want to break out your bullet journal and draw all you can and make tons of trackers, lists, monthly challenges, and collection pages.

But you'll find that eventually its hard to keep up with all those trackers. You can't find time to really do them all, and you skip them and begin a burnt out stage. The you feel guilty and try to fix it, but you cant really recount all those days, can you?

How to fix it
Just think about what trackers you really need. If you don't spend a lot each month, do you really need that extra two spending and account trackers? If you drink tons of water in the meantime, whats the point of a water consumption tracker? Record whats best for you, and don't overwhelm yourself with too many ideas at a time.

Awesome example by Sheena of the Journal

2. Playing the comparison game
Its so easy to compare yourself to other bullet journalers. "Oh, my calligraphy doesn't even compare to hers!" or "Her mood tracker is so much more creative than mine." are not good ways to improve your bullet journaling. Yes, you can't deny that there are better journalers than you out there, but the thing is, everyone has their strengths. You might be awesome at minimalist style, and careful detail, but terrible at calligraphy (That's me) and your favorite journaler is great at calligraphy but terrible at details!

How to fix this
Play to your strengths. What are you good at? Show that prominently in your bullet journal pages. Find what makes you happy. Draw that! Be yourself with your art.

Great example by the Petite Planner

3. Overdoing it
Ever find yourself just looking at your bullet journal and saying, why do I have all this in here? This ties into my first point. You can easily overdo it and just bullet journal your way out of here, but sometimes it ends up just too much. Focusing on what is important is hard when your life gets crazy (we all know that happens) and you feel like you need to constantly plan, plan, plan.

How to fix this
Focus on what you need. Again, are all the pages necessary? Consider that before writing a new page. Also, slow it down. When I said that our lives get crazy, I meant really crazy. Slow it down to a good pace to space all the stuff out. You'll thank me when you can think straight and plan it out.

Thanks for reading this, y'all. I hope this helps solve some of your problems if you think that your bullet journaling is just getting out of hand or you think you've gone wrong somewhere.

As a christian, I take my spiritual life into account whenever I can. Through bullet journaling, it is a new way to show your faith and take it to a new level through creativity.

I use some really handy booklets and a day to day devotional to help me connect my journaling to my faith.

Some helpful booklets and devotionals:

  • A cup of faith, a Journal for Reflection
  • The Bible App: Any plan is a great devotional
  • A verse journal: Recording verses that jump out at you that day
  • Your bullet journal, of course. :)

What this helps me do is to reflect on my day and reference my past days to see how my life has been. I can write what I've been feeling and experiencing and really break it down.

In my bullet journal I record verses sort of like quotes. I skip a page and leave it for later, and I come back and write a meaningful verse on it to inspire me in my day to day life.

Great example by EC on Pinterest

With my verse journal I take a journal and fill it up with verses. I find a verse that I really like, categorize it (Love, faith, hope, anger, etc.) and put it in that section on a sticky note. The fun part about this is you can decorate it any way you want. You can write the verse in calligraphy, doodle, etc. It can look really cute! Its a great way to reference verses depending on your mood.

The bible app offers many different ways to grow in your faith with God. They help you find plans based on your needs or trials you are going through, or just areas of your life that you want to work on. You can also connect with friends on this app and read the bible together.

Overall, I use many ways to grow in my faith, so many sometimes that it takes me 30 minutes for my time with God! I hope this fuels your desire to know God better and be able to grow in your relationship with him.

For me, when I journal I normally prefer to see all of my month or week on one page. If I am having an extremely busy week I'll put it on a few pages and not a monthly spread, but if its a quiet month its just great having a spread where you can see everything in one place.

Let me introduce you to some great ideas from some of my favorite bullet journal bloggers and journalists themselves. Most of these ideas are pretty similar but they give you lots of great ideas to get you started.

Amazing examples by https://sheenaofthejournal.com/

This lady is a pro at anything bullet journal: Calligraphy headings, organizers, trackers, you name it. Her weekly spreads are my pick because they are so pretty and feminine. They organize every thing from head to toe and make it so simple.

My next journalist is Slightly Sorted. She adds a lot of designs and icons into her journaling to give it character and feeling. She also makes her bullet journal very feminine and light.

Some great ideas by https://slightlysorted.com/

Her art is so cute and like I said before, packed with some amazing doodles. Her site/blog is also one of the cutest I've seen so far.

This next artist is called Just Bright Ideas and her website covers everything from bullet journaling to parenting hacks. It is perfect for a wide age range of readers. Plus, her bullet journaling is amazing!

I hope y'all were inspired by this art and you make some yourself. With bullet journaling or weekly spreads, you just need to experiment and when you experiment you get better. Just try it!

As a blogger and a journalist I have a few bloggers who I take tips from. Who else better to learn from than the pros? I wanted to introduce you to them and show you some of their work.

First up is my personal favorite, The Petite Planner. Her site is so effortlessly stylish and has so many great ideas.

She is an amazing woman and I get some great ideas of what to write from her. She has the best bullet journal and is a pro at calligraphy and headers. I love what she writes because she doesn't just have tips, she actually has ideas.

Second up is a blogger called Little Coffee Fox. Number one reason: I love her name! Who doesn't like coffee and little foxes? This blog is very natural and to me is written from the heart. She really speaks to you and gives you ideas, and helps you improve not just your journaling but your whole self.
A great blog by https://littlecoffeefox.com/

The reason why I like Mood Trackers in my bullet Journal is because over the month you can look back on what your month was like in terms of feelings and moods. Sometimes I'm having a really bad week, and I look back and see how that week showed that I was totally stressed out. It helps you to change the way you react to things and how you go about your general lifestyle.

With Mood Trackers, you get to really categorize the page. If you're a perfection geek, this is just for you. (Totally not me, by the way.) You get to choose how you want the page to work and what colors you choose for the moods. And its perfectly organized.

If you've never made a mood tracker, its basically a tracker for your moods. Just like it sounds. You can design it according to the month, your feelings, or thoughts. You fill it in each day, using different colors to express your moods.

Here's a great example:

This is actually my half completed Mood Tracker from January. I started this tracker halfway into January so I didn't complete it. (Don't do that. Its just me and my crazy mind.) As you can see, I have many different colors to represent my different moods.. like beige for emotionless, orange for angry, and purple for stressed, etc.

With mood trackers you can design them in many different ways. I think the most popular way is to design according to the month. My current mood tracker is a Valentine's day tracker, and I made little hearts and I am filling it in every day. This tracker, for example, was in January so I made it like a snowflake. Though where I live we don't get a single flake of snow, some of you might be having a snowstorm and this is a great design for you.

Here are some more great examples to get you started-

All of these have a similar layout: Different items to fill in over the month. I especially like the fox one and the 'tea' tracker.

Whats important with Mood Trackers is that you have some difference between the colors. You want to know which color is which mood, and you want to use colors that aren't just a shade off. The purpose of a Mood Tracker is to track your moods, and so you want to know what you're looking at.

I hope this helped y'all get started! Go start tracking your moods.

This is the start of a series called ‘Journal Trackers’. I wanted to introduce to y’all another way to organize your day to day lifestyle. One way to do that is through a Habit Tracker.

This is my completed January habit tracker. With a habit tracker you can track any sort of habits. You can decide to make a tracker to develop good habits, or to break ones. With my tracker I used it as a way to help myself remember things I have in my agenda as a day to day task.

Some options for categories:
  • Out of bed by ____
  •  Bible study
  • Homework done (for kids)
  • Bullet journal (That one would already be done if you’ve opened your journal!)
  • Exercise
  • Read
  • Clean room/house
  • Check calender
You can personalize this all you want: I have a few more included.. like practice piano, make bed, clean desk, ( because you know it’s going to be messy) new contacts.. etc. you can tune it to your own interests, and you can combine habits you want to break and habits you want to start all in one chart. I did this back when I was trying to stop biting my nails. I included it with a few more habits I wanted to break along with my day to day tasks.

I hope this helps y’all to organize your lives a little more and than they already are.

Our days are very busy.. caught up with our own activities, and then our kids. Shuttling the family around to each of their activities isn’t easy. With journaling, you can find an easy way to keep track of your priorities and things you need to do. This is sort of like using a calendar, but it produces it in a way where you really plan out what you are doing, and it is really relaxing too!

So for a day to day journaling process, you just have to experiment with it. Is your bullet journal a monthly thing or a yearly journal? Depending on this, you can devote a page to one day, or a page to a week, or even a month! It just depends on you. If you have a very busy schedule, you may need more room to write down your thoughts and plans. It just depends on you.

For me, I have tried a few ways to record my plans and activities and they’ve both worked out fine. But I had a favorite, which was the monthly view. It helps me to see all of my month in one, and if I need to plan something later in the month I can do it there and see it anytime.

Back in January I tried a weekly agenda, but it never really worked for me. I didn’t have a lot going on back then and I didn’t need that much space.
With my other format I can see everything that is upcoming, instead of just that week. Also, it’s really cute! You can experiment with tons of ideas here with either of these ideas. The February one turned out really cute and you can add tons of decals or designs to personalize it.

Have fun journaling your days!

The first thing you want to do as a journalist is to set up your new journal so everything doesn’t get everywhere. I personally have an index so if you get the Leuchtturm 1917 journal you won’t have to do this. Just set up some sort of an index using a ruler and pens and mark the page number, title, and date.
You also want to determine what your journal is going to be about. Is it a crafting journal? A book full of your thoughts? A diary? Just a planner for your day to day life? It’s up to you. Made a header telling what your journal is going to be about on your first clean page.
Once you are finished with that, you can put in a quote or something like that if you want. Directly after this I put a key, to use with my day to day journaling. It tells me symbols to help me mark off or keep track of what I’ve done or what I have to do. It contains simple directions like task, completed, started, forwarded task, and events. All up to you, too.
Once your finished setting this up, your ready to start journaling!

As a journalist I find it necessary to use a few essential tools to help me along the way.

  • A Leuchtturm 1917 Bullet Journal
  • Tamit fine line drawing pens, 36 ct
  • Calligraphy pen
  • Felt tip pens by Papermate
As a standard journalist, I like to have the essentials when I write or draw. When you are working in your journal you want to make it look as nice as possible, and to do that you need the right materials. The leuchtturm bullet journal is a really nice journal that keeps everything organized. It has 251 pages and is dotted. It has an index to keep your pages organized if you wish.
The Calligraphy pens help to create nice, smooth lettering to make a beautiful title, page header or decoration.
The felt tip pens do the same, but instead of being decorative, they can be used as writing tools to spice up your journal and give it some color.
The Tanmit drawing pens are a fine line pen that gives you a smooth and small line for when you need those tiny details.

With these materials, your journaling can never go wrong.
